Ever since they were created, SRS Distribution and US LBM have tended to promote themselves as a family of brands. Doing so made sense because local brands were better known than the holding company, executives for the firms argued. But in recent months, we’ve noticed a change.
First, SRS began renaming many of its stores in Texas as SRS Building Products, and then put the same name on its Superior Distribution facilities in the Southeast. Now comes news that US LBM has renamed most of the pro-oriented locations in Texas as Texas Building Supply. All but a few of two more retail-oriented US LBM stores in Texas, Higginbotham Bros. and Parker’s Building Supply, will keep their names.
The moves might not mean much internally, as both SRS and US LBM are more organized geographically than by brand name. But US LBM’s change to a unified logo could make the locations more attractive should a buyer ever approach US LBM to acquire its Texas pro yards. Of course, SRS already has a new owner in The Home Depot.
